The Institut d’Estudis del Pròxim Orient Antic (IEPOA) (Institute for Ancient Near Eastern Studies) of the UAB, in collaboration with the coordination of the Master’s Degree in Egyptology of this same university, has launched a number of actions for Master’s graduates and PhD students of the research line in “Egyptology and Near Eastern Studies” of the PhD Program in “Sciences of Antiquity and the Middle Ages” of the UAB aimed at facilitating their professionalization as Egyptologists and their incorporation to archaeological and epigraphic missions and projects on the ground. The destinations are archaeological missions in Egypt, from IEPOA itself or from other institutions. These actions are:
1. Calls to cover archaeologist or epigrapher positions in the IEPOA missions in Egypt. In 2018 the first of this calls took place, which resulted in the selection of ten archaeologists/epigraphers for the teams of these missions. In 2019 a second call has been launched and other four archaeologists have been selected. The aim is that the PhD students and Master’s graduates in Egyptology of the UAB who satisfy the conditions get the chance to participate in them and gain field experience or integrate into their research teams.
2. Calls to select candidates to training programmes in archaeological techniques applied to Egyptology, such as ceramology, restoration or physical anthropology. Selected students are trained by specialists in these fields and participate as trainees in archaeological missions in Egypt, carried out by the IEPOA or other Spanish or foreigner institutions.
